About

A citizen of Rosemère in Québec, Sébastien Pitt is a professional Canadian artist working in digital arts. His practice encompasses audiovisual installation, performance, augmented reality an crypto-art (NFT). He essentially creates his works from a calibrated performative system integrating high definition 3D elements reacting in real time to sound compositions created by modular synthesizers. His aesthetic research focuses on the collision between the intangible and the visible through the heap of generative textures and the unveiling of virtual objects, thus threading on the asperity between perception and affects. His works have been featured at the Vienna Art Week (2023), Nathan Philips Square in Toronto (2023), New City Gaz by OxSociety (2022), and by the Société des arts technologiques [SAT] during the 7th edition of the Symposium IX — Sound & Immersion (2021). He showcased interactive augmented reality pieces, NFTs, and an audiovisual performance at the 5th edition of the “Nourritures terrestres” event at the Théâtre Gilles-Vigneault in collaboration with the Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides – MAC LAU. Additionally, he presented an audiovisual performance at the Wikithon of 3L Culture numérique (2021). Furthermore, he organized and produced exhibition and cultural mediation events at the Place des Citoyens in Sainte-Adèle (2021) and at the Maison Hamilton in Rosemère during the Journées de la Culture (2021).

Throughout his practice, Sébastien Pitt is engaged by affordance featured in digital devices and systems while ascertaining the interference potential brought forth by participants. With this artistic approach, he wants to facilitate the access of audiences to digital art by transposing his creations into different rendering domains. The constituent elements of his audiovisual performance iconography are fragmented and swapped into augmented reality experiences and cryptographic artworks while maintaining an aesthetic and conceptual consistency. By this substantializing attempt, he tries to provoke ambiguous recognition in the spectators, thus challenging the notion of digital tensegrity as an abstract environmental condition.

Along with solid experience as an entrepreneur in web agency, customer relations, production team management and teaching, Sébastien Pitt communicates and adapts easily with all the actors involved in a creative process. Creator of a standardized web content management system (SGC/CMS) for the blind, he has also collaborated on the interactive sound programming of art video installations, as well as renowned DJ DMX light systems. Working on several projects, he is able to get involved in all aspects of multimedia production; from concept to realization, from consultation to production, from support to training, from dissemination to mediation.

Vouched in his field of practice by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, his projects have been mainly proposed in consideration of the advancement of the professionalization of independent artistic practice and to facilitate the access of regional audiences to digital arts, specifically among citizens of the Laurentians.
